Alternative Methods for Treating Breast Cancer

Most women are aware of breast cancer.  It is currently the second-leading cause of death by cancer among women.  It is important to know about this type of cancer and how to tell if you have it or at risk of contracting it in the future.  It is likewise important to know what your options are when it comes to treatment.  Finding the right treatment for you will help you fight breast cancer effectively.

With breast cancer, the first step is prevention and pre-screening.  The earlier this cancer is detected, the sooner and more effective the treatment is going to be.  The easiest way to screen for breast cancer is by doing a monthly self-breast exam.  This can be done at home, and your doctor can give you the proper instructions on how to do it.  This type of breast exam is going to help you notice any changes in the breast, such as color or size changes, the appearance of lumps or bumps, or any pain or tenderness in a particular area.  If you find any of these problems, you should immediately contact your physician or gynecologist, who will then order more tests, such as a mammogram or a biopsy to check for cancer.

Another method of checking for breast cancer, especially for mature women, is via a mammogram .  The age that women are recommended for the procedure depends on their risk for contracting this type of cancer.  Mammograms aid in the detection of any changes in the breast, including the formation of tumors or cysts.

There is a possibility, however remote, of a positive diagnosis for breast cancer arising from these tests.  DO NOT lose hope.  Today, more than ever, there exist a variety of options aside from the usual treatments that your doctor will most probably offer first.  These include chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, and mastectomies.  These traditional approaches, however, do come with risks, are invasive, and, more often than not, have serious side effects.

A number of holistic approaches are now accepted as viable alternatives to these traditional cancer treatments. Whole clinics have sprung up that specifically cater to individuals seeking alternative treatment modalities for breast cancer. However, pursuing this path requires finding a medical practitioner who is willing to support you. The guidance of a licensed physician, who will oversee your care, will make the process both easier and safer.

Nutrition is being used more and more as a way to help treat breast cancer.  Certain foods, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients have been shown to help with the various symptoms of breast cancer. An example is haelan, a type of liquid soy bean extract that has been shown to help block cancer-cell blood supplies, boost the immune system, and help reduce the size of tumors.  Flax seed oil has been credited with slowing cancer-cell growth and improving the condition of the immune system, as well.  Removing certain things from your diet has been shown to also be of help.  Studies have shown that a diet low in sugar is helpful in preventing cancer or in stopping cancer from growing.  Changing to a diet that is lower in sugar may aid in “starving” cancer from your body.

Electronic or magnetic therapies are modalities that are also showing promise in treating various types of cancer, not just breast cancer.  These types of treatments include electrotherapy and magnetic resonance.  Electrotherapy is used to treat tumors in the breast with the aid of electrical stimulation.  This technique works by destroying the tumor in a gentle manner.  The procedure is typically done with local anesthesia and is not very invasive.  Magnetic resonance, meanwhile, uses radio waves. These are set at a frequency that specifically resonates with cancer cells, which have a different frequency compared to normal, healthy cells.

This is just a sampling of all the alternative treatments for breast cancer.  The particular treatment that is ultimately chosen needs to be based on your beliefs, the aggressiveness of your cancer, and your body’s overall condition. I also need to reiterate the importance of finding a doctor who will listen to your wishes and go with the therapy that feels right for you.
